Opening this Thursday Feb. 23 at Edywnn Houk Gallery, Jonas Mekas / Robert Polidori: Portraits presents a unique and unusual first-time collaborative exhibition by longtime friends Jonas Mekas and Robert Polidori. Revealing little-known work by both artists, the show presents a series of portraits produced from sequences of stills that capture the essence of various personalities and characters.

Rosee Camafreita | Featured Artists Wanted Portfolio

Rosee Camafreita creates strong and dramatic images that she calls “Menacing Abstractions” due to their dark and mysterious nature. She uses photography as a tool for experimentation making use of sheets of fabric, light and color to produce modern and abstract images which she then re-invents with acrylic paints. The artist aims to express the essence of her photographs in order to capture their power on a canvas.

Thank you to all the artists for joining us in our 2nd annual Year in Review competition. The amount of compelling, inspiring and talented work we received has been stunning.

After much deliberation, the selected artists of Year in Review 2011 have been determined with the help of our jury panelists: Alexis Hubshman, Founder of SCOPE Art Fair; Mollie White, Show Director of SCOPE Art Fair; James Jenkin, Executive Director of Printed Matter; Jayme McLellan, Director and Founder of Civilian Art Projects; Michael Royce, Executive Director of the New York Foundation for the Arts (NYFA); Fran Wu Giarratano, Exhibitions Manager of Independent Curators International (ICI); Eve Schillo, Curatorial Assistant at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA); Nadja Sayej, Host and Producer of ArtStars*; Eva Kaczor, Publisher and Editor of ARTberlin.de; Elizabeth Ann Macgregor, Director of the Museum of Contemporary Art Sydney (MCA); and Sam Barzilay, Founding Member of the New York Photo Festival (NYPH) and Creative Director of United Photo Industries.

Yayoi Kusama | Tate Modern

For nine decades Yayoi Kusama’s varying artistic styles has allowed for her work to encompass an astonishing variety of media. Kusama has reinvented her style yet again to create installations that immerse the viewer in her obsessively charged visions of endless dots and nets or infinitely mirrored space, reflecting her struggle with mental health problems. As Japan’s most prominent contemporary artist, an exhibition of this size of her work has never been seen in the UK. Works will be on view through June 5th 2012.

Audrey Reilly | Featured Artists Wanted Portfolio

Audrey Reilly, an Irish artist residing in Hannover, Germany since 1984 paints, draws and designs graphics which study the human form. As a member of Atelier Block 16, the artist shares a restored factory building with 7 other creatives which houses their studios.

Audrey Reilly studied art at the Regional Technical College in Sligo, Ireland.

BIKINI LINES

Bikini Lines is a project to create the World’s Largest Painting on the Runit Island Cactus Dome, where radioactive debris from nearby Bikini Islands and surrounding Atolls are encased. Cleared by the Marshallese government, Bikini Lines is your shot at contributing to the world’s largest painting and making your art viewable in Google Earth.

100 DAYS | 3 SOLO SHOWS

One Hundred Days is asking artists to create a piece of art aimed to raise awareness for sustainability, demonstrating the potential of art in regards to environmental, social, and economic issues. Three winners will each have their work showcased in New York City with a 33 day solo-show.

ONE HUNDRED DAYS is an international competition for emerging artists organized and sponsored by Contaminate NYC. The competition is open to artists working within the realm of Visual and Installation Art, including sculpture, installation, painting, photography, design, and illustration.

One Hundred Days believes in the need to create imagery that ultimately hits the public consciousness with the seriousness of climate change, and its impact into our lives, and the need for a systemic shift in our economic and industrial model. Artists are challenged to awake the collective moral imagination so the general public can begin to comprehend the change that will be forced upon us if we don’t take action now.
