Biography:
Ellie Brown is a native of Boston, MA where she attended MassArt. She received her B.F.A. in photography in 1997 and her M.F.A. in Photography from San Jose State University in 2002. Ellie has received numerous awards including: a Pollock Krasner Foundation Grant, Leeway Foundation grant, and an artist in residence at the Santa Fe Art Institute, Atlantic Center for the Arts and abroad in Costa Rica and Iceland. Both her bookwork and photographs are exhibited extensively nationally and internationally. Her book work was just displayed in a solo exhibition at Center for the Book Arts in NY in the fall of 2009. Ellie has been photographing girls’ issues since 1996 and making altered bookwork since 2002. She has two published books. In 2008 she taught as a visiting professor at the College of Design at the University of Ulsan, in S.Korea. She is the founder of POP!sicle Artist Marketing. Ellie has curated exhibitions in CA and PA and is currently working on a collaborative project called bag with Filmmaker Camille Thoman. The work present, Ten Days in the CAPSULE, was an all consuming project which resulted in some very surprising results. The project documented a Ten Day Capsule relationship questioning social scripting.
