South Pasadena, California
Biography:
I am a court manager for the Los Angeles Superior Court. At the same time, I am an artist. My double life as both public administrator and artist has led to my self-characterization as a “bureaucracy artist.”
I create photographic images utilizing actual court space in order to comment on institutional authority and the power dynamics that inhabit our country’s system of justice (and injustice). My work seeks to reveal the impressions made by institutions on our individual and shared humanity. Through this practice, I hope to raise consciousness to the injustices experienced by all humanity as we struggle to exist within the authoritarian and hierarchical forces that define our world.
The use of cameras is prohibited in the public spaces of the courthouse. I therefore shoot my subjects well after normal working hours so that I can re-create the physical and emotional landscape that I witness during normal working hours.rn
