Biography:
"interior / exterior" explores the relationship between self and environment, whether open or contained spaces, and includes a mixture of autobiographical and fictional imagery. Through this series, I continue to concentrate on narrative, light and colour, with a certain darkness finding its way into my images. A work in progress, I intend to develop the series further during 2010 and exhibit the images as part of a collaborative show featuring ambient sounds recorded by UK-based artist Philip Ivens. A short road trip with Philip along the east coast of Australia from Melbourne to Brisbane will allow for a variety of locations and situations to be included in the series. The chance to live in New York would provide the perfect opportunity for me to further develop this series. Having recently made a difficult decision to postpone travel to the US and UK until 2011 for financial reasons, a prize such as this would make that travel possible and allow me to take up an apprenticeship with fellow self-portrait artist Aaron Hobson, and to meet and collaborate with many other photographers, writers and artists in and around New York. A fine art photographer, my work has a strong emphasis on self-portraiture, but encompasses portraiture, urban and natural landscapes, the minutiae of every day life, dolls and graveyards. 1 of 8 artists shortlisted for the 2009 Toyota Community Spirit Artist Travel Award, I regularly have work included in local and online exhibitions and magazine.
