Brooklyn, NY
Biography:
I spent my summers as a kid in suburban Detroit mucking around in the neighborhood pond. My love for all things wild and free led me to achieve a Bachelors degree in Natural Resources and Environment at the University of Michigan. Since then, I spent many sweaty seasons in the field on wildlife conservation, native plant work and environmental restoration projects near and far. I am a new graduate of the Natural Science Illustration Certificate Program at the University of Washington in Seattle. My fascination with nature and wildlife inspires my illustrations in acrylic, watercolor and ink. My art has been published for environmental education purposes and to promote environmental conservation.
These days you can find me wandering around Brooklyn, peeking up the undersides of mushrooms and rooting around the fringes of your yard. Photography is often the first step in composing my illustrations and lately, I have been focused on the often overlooked elements of nature in urban landscapes. These self-portraits, taken in Tokyo, Japan, highlight the small, yet absolutely vital, members of our local ecosystems. Their position, front and center, is a reflection of my respect and fascination for nature.
