Biography:
Hi, my name is Dana McElroy. I am a graduate of Temple University's, Tyler School of Art, in Philadelphia. I continue to live and work in Philadelphia. I hold an internship position at Vox Populi Gallery, and for a living, I bar tend at a neighborhood bar. My photographs are of hand constructed sets. Each environment illustrates the details of our human relationships. I draw from examples in my own life to describe the ironies, tensions, and growth involved in our interactions with each other. Through portraiture, I show how I see someone, a group of people, or myself, then use narrative to describe our relationship or a moment spent together. Building these spaces allows me to free the moment from surrounding distractions and isolate what is significant in my memory. Many of these scenes are highly personal, however, the symbolism and body language in each speak about the universal human experience that threads us all together.
