Biography:
THE DAD PROJECT.
This is the story of an ending without an ending.
This is a work in progress, and I hope it always will be.
This is my attempt to say goodbye to my dad, with the help of my camera.
Being a good daughter to my dying dad was tricky.
I struggled to find the right balance between dedication to his needs and distraction from my grief.
At first, the idea of introducing a camera into this already un-resolvable equation seemed unwise,
but eventually I think it became the solution.
I spent the last eight months recording my relationship with my dad, through photography and film, until he died of cancer three months ago. During this time I was on the Masters course in Documentary Photography at the London College of Communication and graduated last month. This is undoubted the most important work I've done.
I've been taking photos 'for the love' for about 12 years, and for my living for about 5. I won my first award this year. London has always been my home, but many places have inspired my work. Prior to The Dad Project, I was photographing a story on my East London neighborhood. Now that I am no longer tied to London I will be continuing my long-term project on Urban Africa. Dedicating my time to personal projects has always been a priority, and working for a variety of commercial and non-profit clients enables me to do this. I shoot youth-culture imagery for Getty Images and exhibit my art work regularly.
