New York, NY
Biography:
To see his recreations of Manhattan, is to see Borbay himself. Born on Long Island, and Upper East Side resident since 2003, Borbay is an independent full-time artist who has been on reality TV, performed stand-up comedy and worked for Donald Trump. The process behind his work is more significant than a “means to the end” – it is as critical as the destination. From location prospecting, to planning, to sketching, to painting, to completion and beyond, he shares each step of the journey on his blog (borbay.com), Twitter (@borbay), and Facebook accounts. To date, he has recreated cherished New York landmarks, including The Guggenheim, Woolworth Building, Elaine’s, Chrysler Building and the Brooklyn Bridge. On the heels of being named Time Out New York's Most Creative New Yorker, Borbay's current body of location paintings will be on display for a one-night-only exhibition on January 20th, 2010 - entitled Urbania (borbay.com/urbania). With his colorful canvases already coveted and collected across the globe, Borbay and his mustache are building a career independent of the traditional gallery system.
